Superlative instruments with a highly diversified repertoire, the trumpet and cornet registers range from sopranino (piccolo trumpet) to bass. The soprano Bb and C models are the most widespread. They are dedicated to a wide range of styles such as classical, jazz, pop, funk, but also are marching band instruments and eventually are performed in Brass Bands (especially the cornet). The most popular trumpet and cornet bores are ML standing for medium large (11.34mm) and L for large (11.73mm), which are both measurements of the inside diameter of the second valve slide. It is the overall interior geometry of the pipe, which is two thirds conical and one third cylindrical on a trumpet (at the opposite of the two thirds conical and one third cylindrical for the cornet), that has a determining influence on the tone and overall acoustics. The historical challenge of these parameters lies between the compromise of resistance and ease of emission.

The Master Builder and the Hagmann Custom Shop

The Custom Shop is today patronized by our master craftsman Claudio Maragno, an enthusiastic virtuoso of customization. His expertise allows him to advise you and guide you in your choice. Being an eminent brass specialist, he is the perfect interlocutor to listen to you and help you customizing your trumpet or cornet. To choose a lead pipe or a bell from our large assortment, or why not several (allowed by the modularity of the vibrabell concept), he will be in line with your taste and your needs.

He will do his level best to guide you in this task which will result in the creation of a personalized instrument which does not necessarily exist on the market to serve your talent and musicianship. All combinations are possible since they differ from one performer to another.

Your own lead pipe and bell are of course compatible with our vibrabell if your trumpet or cornet suit you in terms of tone, but with added energy and increased fluidity in terms of emission.

We are happy with Claudio’s collaboration and his enthusiasm in a challenge that remains relevant and is constantly evolving towards new horizons.

Our exclusive “Vibrabell” system

René Hagmann has found the solution to make the trumpet easy to play, homogeneous and modular as desired. Its central element is the “Vibrabell” system which greatly facilitates emission while improving the sound. Its concept is a floating bell mounted on a rod with silicone anchors. This dispenses with the use of traditional in-between braces and therefore frees the instrument from its tensions. This unique system improves the sound richness and power while making the instrument it easier to play. It allows tuning between the bell and the piston case (fully adjustable) improving accuracy, among other things.

Claudio Maragno has developed and adapted this system to the cornet which as well greatly improves its sound richness while also making it easier to play.

Trumpet lead pipes and bells

The concept of construction allows the central element to be connected to different mouthpieces lead pipes and bells without any restriction. The instrument therefore becomes completely modular. We all know that the lead pipes (reversed or standard) of different brands produce a distinctive emission which combined with various bells give a particular character to your instrument. The choice may vary depending on the repertoire which for the trumpet is very varied. Our vibrabell will allow you multiple combinations while retaining its fundamental sound improvement features.

As a professional trumpeter and experienced researcher, Vincent Bach created numerous lead pipes and bells since 1924 which are still up to date and perfectly compatible with our vibrabell. It would be tedious to list them all because each combination impacts the musician in a different way. The flagship lead pipes are 6, 7, 25 (C and A), 43 and 44. As for the bells, references 37, 43, 72 and 239 are the most popular models. The alloys used (brass, pink brass or even silver) have a significant impact as does the finish of the instrument (raw, varnished, silvered, gold-plated). The lead pipes of the craftsman Bob Malone are also very appreciated by current musicians and may of course be combined with a bell from another brand.

The Bb trumpet with an additional fourth valve

Designed by Nassim Maalouf and played by his virtuoso son Ibrahim, this instrument nicknamed Michelangelo’s trumpet allows to play quarter tones. Whether in jazz, classical or traditional oriental music repertoires, this fourth piston valve allows multiple new harmonic variations.

Our master craftsman will be delighted to customize your trumpet to the standards of Adrien Jaminet, the manufacturer with whom Ibrahim Maalouf collaborates. Your choice of lead pipe and bell associated with the vibrabell will allow you to extend the range to quarter tones with all the sound advantages mentioned above. This development in the field of the trumpet perfectly legitimizes our approach being the result of numerous researches. The construction process is now completed so that an exceptional trumpet would match your expectations.

The Cornet

The vibrabell cornet is a recent addition that was developed by our expert builder Claudio Maragno.

Based on the same principles as those of the vibrabell trumpet, the vibrabell cornet supplies to the musician magnificent tones in all registers.

We sincerely hope that a dialog followed by tests can help you to find your dream instrument. We will put all our experience and know-how to match your expectations. Our stock of bells and branches should undoubtedly meet your needs. Any type of finish is also possible, traditional, or more modern (satin) as Claudio fancies them.
